The Fiji Pearls have set a solid foundation in the PacificAus Sports Netball Series in Queensland, Australia on Monday.

The national side defeated Singapore 67-52 in its opening match to set the tempo for the remainder of the tournament.

The Pearls impressed at Nissan Arena taking charge 17-12 from the first quarter, 19-15 at halftime and 20-10 in the third quarter.

This was enough to secure the win although they fell 11-15 in the last quarter of the match.

They faced Tifa Moana Samoa yesterday evening in its second match when this edition went to press.

Samoa also registered a convincing win on day one, beating series debutant Namibia 55-47.

Favourite Tonga Tala was at their usual best and was pushed to the brink by another series debutant Australia’s First Nations Invitation team, the Black Swans 62-50.

The series continues tonight with the Pearls taking on the Black Swans at 5pm.
