Pearls coach happy

FIJI Pearls coach Vicki Wilson said the team performed to what the coaching staff expected of them during their Netball Europe Open Championships in Cardiff, Wales.

Wilson said to compete against top teams from the northern hemisphere gave them a good foundation as what to expect during the Netball World Cup.

“We played a training game against the England future squad,” Wilson said.

“It was a tough encounter and the ideal match practise the team required.

“It was an opportunity to run our different combinations with Kelera Nawai moving to goal attack.

“She quickly put her rhythm and looked very comfortable playing in front of Maria Lutua.

Captain Vaiti Waqatabu was strong through the mid-court and was leading by example.

“We were forced to make a number of changes because of niggling injuries and sickness to a number of players.”

Wilson said with one week of travelling from one place to another the girls had learnt so much in skills wise and would come back and polish some areas that needed to be looked at.

The team arrives in the country today.
