PASSENGERS on board the MV Westerland Interlink vessel bound for Vanua Levu have been stranded for over 10 hours now off Natovi jetty.
A man, who spoke to The Fiji Times on the condition of anonymity, said close to 300 passengers boarded the vessel at 11pm last night.
He said four buses had dropped the passengers off last night to board the vessel which was to go to Savusavu and Nabouwalu.
The passenger said they were stranded off Burelevu village and he hopes the ship company would fix the problem soon which he claims to be an engine problem.
He said he was worried about small children some of which are babies.
“As of now they are trying to fix something before we can continue with the voyage. We just hope it doesn’t rain, if it’s going to rain than all will be wet.”
When contacted the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji confirmed that the transport minister has been briefed on the matter.
Question sent to the minister, Jone Usamate remain unanswered.
Attempts to get in touch with someone from the Interlink Shipping Line Ltd is still ongoing.
