Air New Zealand says it is strengthening its passport and boarding checks after a woman managed to fly from Auckland to Nadi without her passport, according to a report by the New Zealand Herald.
What was meant to be a relaxing girls’ getaway reportedly unravelled when one traveller boarded a flight to Fiji without the required travel document, the newspaper reports this morning.
Upon arrival in Nadi, immigration officials discovered she did not have her passport and she was denied entry.
The woman was placed back on the same aircraft and returned to New Zealand alone, while her companions continued with their trip.
In a statement cited by the NZ Herald, Air New Zealand confirmed it is reviewing the incident and will strengthen checks to help prevent a similar situation from occurring again.
Air New Zealand has not disclosed further details about how the oversight occurred, but said it is cooperating with relevant authorities as part of its review.
