THE National Federation Party is a very proud member of the Coalition Government under the leadership of Sitiveni Rabuka.

Defence Minister and NFP vice-president Pio Tikoduadua made this remark in Rakiraki last Saturday during the annual general meeting of the party’s Ra branch.

“In this Coalition Government, as you all know, we have People’s Alliance Party being the senior partner, and we also got SODELPA the other political party and we have NFP,” Mr Tikoduadua said.

“And also, within the Coalition itself, we also have an additional 11 members, who are independent members of parliament, who were initially members of the FijiFirst party.

“After the demise of that party they became independent members and 11 of them have chosen to become members of the Government

“So, some of them now presently serve as cabinet ministers of the State and also as assistant ministers.

“And some of them are members of parliament like everyone else, so that is the government.”

Mr Tikoduadua reiterated the Coalition Government assumed power during a challenging period.

“At this stage as we speak, we are into the two-and-a-half-year mark.

“The Coalition Government under the leadership of Sitiveni Rabuka took over the leadership of our nation and our people at a very difficult time.

“We won the elections by a very narrow margin, actually by two seats.

“But since then, the independent members that have come across to join us, our majority now is much bigger meaning that we can breathe a little bit more easily.

“So, we do not have to be running around all the time during the votes to make sure that we have all the numbers to be able to push our bills through Parliament.”
