The People’s Alliance Party (PAP) has addressed the circulation of a list on social media purportedly containing names of individuals who have applied to contest under the party banner, but stopped short of confirming or denying its authenticity.
In a statement, PAP general secretary Sila Balawa emphasised that the candidate application and selection process remained a confidential internal matter governed by the party’s constitution.
“The Party wishes to emphasise that the candidate application and selection process is a confidential internal matter governed by the People’s Alliance Party Constitution,” Mr Balawa said.
He said any unauthorised disclosure of information relating to the process was unacceptable and constituted a serious breach of party discipline.
“The Party Constitution provides clear authority for the investigation and management of misconduct, including actions that undermine confidentiality, trust and unity within the Party.”
Mr Balawa confirmed that internal processes had been initiated to determine the source of the alleged leak and identify those responsible.
“In accordance with these provisions, internal processes have been initiated to establish the source of this leak and to determine responsibility,” he said.
He warned that the party would not tolerate indiscipline, factional behaviour or the leaking of confidential party information by members, staff or affiliates.
“Such conduct, particularly when driven by personal grievances, is damaging to the Party and will be addressed firmly and decisively.”
“As we move closer to an election period, the Party remains vigilant against misinformation and deliberate attempts to undermine its internal processes,” he said.
“The integrity of our Headquarters and Party structures must be upheld at all times.”
Mr Balawa said the People’s Alliance Party remained united and committed to responsible leadership and good governance.
