THE Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoA) with Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) for improvement of skills development and capacity building within Fiji’s hospitality and tourism sector.
Under the MoA, the two parties will establish a partnership management committee to oversee program implementation and ensure efficient governance and regular monitoring of activities.
FHTA chief executive officer Fantasha Lockington said the partnership aligned with their mission to promote sustainable tourism practices and enhance skills development within Fiji’s tourism sector.
She said FHTA, as the leading industry body representing tourism stakeholders, had decades of experience understanding industry trends and challenges and identifying workable solutions.
APTC Regional Operations director Carmel Nee said through the partnership, they were dedicated to empowering tourism industry professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary for success.
“Our collaboration will enhance the HOTEC event in October 2024 and open doors to broader opportunities, including regional competitions and accredited training,” Ms Nee said.
“Together, we aim to elevate Fiji’s tourism sector to global standards and achieve industry excellence.”
The MoU outlined a shared objective of building capacity of hotel industry partners through accredited short courses, and both institutions will contribute resources and expertise to implement activities to achieve the objective.
The agreement was signed last Thursday at the APTC office in Suva.
