Parliament sits again today for a full agenda today, with matters ranging from crime prevention and maritime safety to teacher salary scales and land reforms.

Parliament will hear ministerial statements and address critical oral and written questions tabled by members.

Among the questions are opposition MP Viam Pillay will seek clarity from the Minister for Policing on specific targets and public reporting mechanisms aimed at reducing burglary and drug-related crimes in identified “red zone” areas by year-end.

Maritime safety will also be under the spotlight, with MP  Sachida Nand requesting updates from the Minister for Transport on measures by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) to safeguard passengers at sea.

Education and teacher remuneration will be raised by opposition MP Hem Chand, who wants details on Early Childhood Education (ECE) teacher placement under the new Band F structure following degree upgrades.

Other notable questions include updates on Savusavu’s refuse dump relocation, rent freeze measures, land buy-back schemes, and the review of Fiji’s dairy industry.

A written question by Assistant Minister Sakiusa Tubuna will also seek the total cost incurred in developing the iTaukei Affairs (GCC) Amendment Regulations since Cabinet’s 2024 approval.

Debates on bills and motions will follow later in the day.
