As the nation approaches the next general election, Parliament remains committed to empowering and encouraging youth and women to engage actively and meaningfully in the democratic process.
Speaker of the Parliament Filimone Jitoko informed Parliament yesterday that the Youth Parliament held earlier this month was a success.
“I wish to inform you that in our continued commitment and determination in nurturing the future leaders of this country, Parliament successfully hosted the 2025 Fiji Youth Parliament from September 8-12, 2025,” Mr Jitoko said.
“The initiative was part of our broader effort to engage and empower young citizens through meaningful participation in democratic processes.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to all the members of the Parliament who contributed to the training and mentoring of the Youth Parliamentarians, as well as those members who came to provide moral support during their mock Parliamentary debate.”
He stated that to further encourage women and youth in national politics, another session of the Women’s and Youth Parliament will be held next year.
“Looking ahead, before the general election in the coming year, we anticipate another Youth Parliament and also the Women’s Parliament as forms of empowerment and encouragement for the youth and the women participation in national politics.”
