Park aims for gold at 2015 Pacific Games

THE Fiji Table Tennis representative to the Pacific Games, Young Jun Park, is hoping to come back to Fiji with a gold medal and he is banking on the experience gained from the international events last year.

Park is an important member of Fiji Table Tennis and said age would not be a barrier for him.

“I am one of the youngest athletes taking part in the Pacific and I think age doesn’t matter. I have played with the older players and in the Oceania region and I will prepare well before the tournament.

“I have played in the international tournament but the result did not go in my favour. I have achieved my aim and goals of coming top three players,” Park said.

The 16-year-old Park took part in Nanjing Youth Olympic qualifying event and Youth Junior circuit and also represented in Oceania Championship in Australia where the side settled for the bronze medal.

“I hope I win a gold medal in Papua New Guinea this year. My first goal is to qualify for the quarter-final and from there it’s the mental game and then the remainder of the tournament.

“It will be a hard challenge because we always lacked down to New Caledonia and Tahiti and we hope that we could change that this year.” he said.

The association will be organising fundraising to raise the funds to pay their levy.
