Players of the Ratu Navula College under-18 side received a major boost of confidence on Saturday as the crowd at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva was a sea of blue by parents who came all the way from the West to cheer them on.
President of the parents association, Taniela Vocevoce, said supporters came out in numbers to cheer on the team as they faced Mahatma Gandhi in the quarter-finals of the Vodafone Super Deans.
“We anticipated today’s (Saturday) match, and we have been preparing for a long time,” said Vocevoce.
“I believe every village in Nadi is represented here today to support the boys and those from the 14 provinces residing in Nadi.
Some parents travelled all the way from Taveuni to watch their sons play.
“We are so grateful to our parents that came from other parts of Fiji and also our old scholars,” he said.
“Coming in today, we were already confident that we would go back victorious in the national quarter-finals,” he added.
Vocevoce said the crowd for next week’s semi-finals will be exceptional.
“We are looking forward to next week’s game. We are confident something good is in place for us in that match.
“The Dean’s Cup is not new to us, we have won it in the past, and we are working towards achieving that glory again.”
Vocevoce acknowledged all traditional pillars of the Vanua of Nadi for their support and blessing.
