TEAM Fiji Paralympics is ready to make the country proud at the 2016 Summer Paralympic Games this month.
Fiji will be represented by Epeli Baleibau in the men’s high jump T47 while Mere Roden will participate in table tennis.
The team departed for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil yesterday accompanied by Fiji Paralympic committee president Fred Fatiaki, chef de mission Mereoni Daveta, section managers Harvi Yee and Ben Qumi.
Fatiaki said after the main Olympics the focus had been on the national 7s team’s gold medal win.
“We are taking only two athletes this year and are hoping for the best,” he said.
“They are looking forward to compete in their sports. The competition will be tough because they will be coming against strong athletes.
“We would like to thank everyone who have supported us in the sport.”
Iliesa Delana won Fiji’s first gold medal at 2012 Summer Paralympics in London after finishing first in the F42 category (for single leg amputees without prosthesis).
The 15th Summer Paralympics Games will be held from September 7-18 in Rio, Brazil.
