PAP Secretary General Sila Balawa – SUPPLIED

An alleged application list for potential candidates of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP) in the next general election has surfaced on social media, prompting the party to launch in investigation into its leakage.

The images, widely shared online, appear to show more than 60 applications.

The document lists names, dates, times and modes of submission, including hand-delivered and emailed applications.

Among the names appearing on the circulated document are several prominent figures, including Foreign Affairs Minister Sakiasi Ditoka, acting AG Siromi Turaga, Minister Maciu Nalusima, Manoa Kamikamica, PAP secretary general Sila Balawa, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Alitia Bainivalu, Esrom Immanuel and Charan Jeath Singh.

Other names worth noting are that of Timoci Bure, Maritino Nemani, Puamau Sowane, Felix Magnus and  Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure.

Last night, in a statement, PAP general secretary Sila Balawa emphasised that the candidate application and selection process remained a confidential internal matter governed by the party’s constitution.

“The Party wishes to emphasise that the candidate application and selection process is a confidential internal matter governed by the People’s Alliance Party Constitution,” Mr Balawa said.

He said any unauthorised disclosure of information relating to the process was unacceptable and constituted a serious breach of party discipline.

“The Party Constitution provides clear authority for the investigation and management of misconduct, including actions that undermine confidentiality, trust and unity within the Party.”

Mr Balawa confirmed that internal processes had been initiated to determine the source of the alleged leak and identify those responsible.
