Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort has expanded its activities and added the adrenaline-fueled fun sport, paintball, to its offerings.

Touted as one of the world’s fastest growing sport, paintball’s popularity comes as no surprise as it can be played by people of all ages.

To that end, the resort is not reserving this social sport — where teams compete using colourful paint splattering markers — to visitors only.

It is open to anyone interested in this game’s authentic style of combat.

With tourism activity reported to be robust and on track to surpass pre-pandemic levels of visitor arrivals, resort manager Russell Blaik said they were ready to offer returnees something new.

The $32,000 paintball activity was launched last month and is located at the Outrigger Adventure Park.

“It’s great to offer people different things when they come back year after year, and this will enhance their experience at the resort,” Mr Blaik said.

“We had all this space here at our golf driving range area and so we thought about what we could do to enhance that and make it a better experience for our guests.

“We decided to look at this paintball options which is becoming very popular, not only here in Fiji but worldwide.

“A few months ago, we also introduced our archery range and that is also proving to be very popular, as it gives the guests just another element of what they can do while they are on holiday.”

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort director of information technology (IT) and activities and events planner, Shaneel Pillay, said the paintball activity was not only for the guests but for anyone who was interested.

“We are extending a 25 per cent discount for all locals and our in-house guests, apart from just the standard packages.

“We also provide group rates for corporate teams who would like to come for team bonding — we do custom packages for that.

“We can partner up your team building experience with paintball, golf, archery, and we can host your corporate lunch as well, should you require, and we can deliver an excellent team building experience.”

Meanwhile, Mr Blaik said renovations would be completed in November this year.

He said the resort had been under major renovations since October last year.

“This includes our 47 bure and 206 rooms,” he said.

“We will also be doing our all-day diner, the Vale ni Kana restaurant and our lobby.

“We have about 90 rooms offline now, the all-day diner is currently under renovation, and we will begin our lobby renovations in August this year, and that should be completed by October.”

He said business had been running smoothly after COVID-19.

“We look forward to welcoming our guests back to a fully renovated resort again.

“We’ve had a great year since COVID-19 and last year was a great year for us as well.

“We haven’t been running to full capacity though because obviously with our rooms offline, but we’ve been running on the capacity of the rooms available and that’s a good sign.”

The resort was expecting forward bookings as well.
