A complaint seeking the reinstatement of Dr Peggy Ravusiro as Fiji’s representative at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant has been lodged, citing pageant regulations that qualify her as the rightful contestant.
The letter, sent to Acting Prime Minister Filimoni Vosarogo, requests government intervention for an independent review into the governance and contractual practices of the Miss Fiji Pageant committee. It raises concerns over breaches of good faith, failure to uphold contractual standards, discriminatory treatment of women, and lack of oversight.
Mr Vosarogo confirmed receiving the complaint.
“I have received the letter of complaint. A decision will be made soon on the complaint,” he said.
Accompanying the letter were the Rules and Regulations of the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, which state that contestants must have won their national pageant to qualify.
Dr Ravusiro, the national pageant winner, was replaced by first runner-up Ailava Samuels following the committee’s decision, prompting questions over the legality and transparency of the action.
The complainants asked the Acting Prime Minister to ensure compliance with pageant rules and support the reinstatement of Dr Ravusiro, pending a lawful and transparent process.
The case has highlighted concerns over governance, accountability, and procedural fairness within national pageant committees, with calls for clearer oversight and protection of contestants’ rights.
