Team Fiji is in its final stages of preparation for the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, which will be held from June 29 to July 9.

Speaking at the team assembly held yesterday at the UseAID Theatre at the University of the South Pacific (USP), chef de mission Josaia Tuinamata said the focus is now on ensuring all athletes and officials are ready for departure.

“We held our I-tatau last week and now it’s all about final briefings and final checks,” Tuinamata said.

“Our athletes are training hard, and this assembly ensures everyone gets the information they need.”

The full Team Fiji contingent of 186 includes 73 male athletes, 63 female athletes, and 50 officials across multiple sports.

Tuinamata confirmed that all sporting teams, athletics, swimming, va’a, triathlon, basketball, volleyball (indoor and beach), weightlifting, and archery are currently in camp.

“Athletics completed their time trials last week while weightlifters finished their max sessions. Everyone is focused on final preparations,” he said.

Team Fiji will travel in two waves on June 27 and 28 aboard chartered flights.

Tuinamata noted that travel logistics are being managed by the Team Fiji headquarters to allow athletes to concentrate on training.

“All required travel documents are being finalised, including Palau’s entry requirements,” he said. “We’re also coordinating accommodation arrangements with officials in Palau.”

He added that a nine-member medical team, including three doctors, six physiotherapists and a psychologist, is already supporting athletes daily.

Tuinamata also highlighted the inclusion of youth athletes being groomed for future Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.

“Our uniforms are packed, the team is ready. We just need everyone to stay focused,” he said.

A church service is scheduled for today to bless the team before departure.
