Swimmer Hansel McCaig won Fiji’s first gold medal during the 17th Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands last night.
McCaig won gold in the men’s 50m freestyle while David Tolu Yong won silver.
Anahira McCutcheon won her fourth medal, settling for bronze in the women’s 50m freestyle.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Bulikula secured a bronze medal for Fiji after defeating Samoa in a gruelling 4-0 battle during the women’s Rugby League 9s play-offs last night.
Head coach Asaeli Saravaki said the win was a testament to the girl’s hard work and dedication over the past few months.
Fiji’s single try came from Adi Grace Waqa who crossed over in the first half.
