Fiji’s lone female archer Chaandvi Prasad is feeling the pressure as she heads into her first Pacific Games appearance.

The 25-year-old doctor is the only female in the team of five archers coached by former national rep George Fong.

Prasad, who attended Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School, will be taking part in the open women’s recurve division and mixed team category.

“I’m very excited and nervous at the same time representing Fiji for the first time. It’s a huge responsibility given that in the last Pacific Games our team won so many medals, so there’s a lot of pressure but I just have to learn to adapt,” she said.

“There’s only one gold medal opportunity in the women’s category so that puts even more pressure on me.”

Prasad competed in two Oceania events earlier this year in Australia with the Pacific Games her third international appearance for Fiji.

“I’m aiming for gold to actually set a new personal best. I have 525 out of 720 so I want to beat that, get a new score and win a gold medal for Fiji,” the Labasa doctor stated.

The archery competition started yesterday at the DC Park in Honiara.
