The Pacific Public Service Leaders Conference, FONO 2025 has heard that the digital wave is reshaping public administration across the world and the Pacific cannot afford to be left behind.
Speaking during the closing ceremony in Suva last Thursday, the Fiji Public Service (PSC) chairman Luke Rokovada said the leaders examined how digital adoption and artificial intelligence could enhance decision making, expand access to services and optimise workforce productivity, while remaining mindful of cyber security, inclusivity and cultural appropriateness.
“I am confident that our ideas will shape how the Pacific prepares its workforce for an increasingly digital future,” Mr Rokovada said.
“I acknowledge the Public Service Commission of Samoa for the foresight and effort in developing the template for the Pacific public service workforce guidelines to strengthen service delivery through workforce planning and human resources.”
He said the public service excellence began with people.
“Throughout FONO, we explored approaches to workforce planning, talent development and retention, and modern HR systems that can sustain capability in small and large administrations alike.
“These reflections will help shape future ready public services, that are responsive, resilient and people cantered.”
Mr Rokovada said through these discussions, one message was clear that our challenges may differ, but our aspirations were shared.
“When we talanoa, we discover solutions that none of us could design alone. That is the power and mana of the Pacific way.”
He encouraged the public service leaders to carry forward what they had discussed, and nurture the partnerships formed in the conference and invest in the next generation of Pacific public servants.
“May we mentor those who follow with courage, kindness and wisdom. May this FONO renew our commitment to regional unity, ethical leadership, innovation and people cantered governance.
“May it strengthen the bonds of our Pacific ‘vuvale’ and inspire bold, collaborative solution for the years ahead.”
