Over $70,000 stolen in early-morning robbery in Lami

Police are investigating a robbery in Lami early this morning where Fiji Times sources confirm over $70,000 that was kept in a safe was taken from a business outlet.

The business is involved in the fishing industry and has a number of boats in its fleet.

Sources confirm the money stolen were in different currencies, including Fiji dollars, USA, Australian, New Zealand and South Korean.

Police state the robbery occurred shortly after 2 a.m this morning when a group of men threatened a security guard, locked him in his booth, and loaded the safe onto a waiting fiberglass boat.

One suspect is in police custody, while authorities continue searching for his accomplices.

Investigations are ongoing.
