The Ministry of Education has confirmed that 2,143 primary school classrooms across 237 schools in Fiji currently exceed the recommended class size of 30 students.
This was revealed by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro in a written response to a Parliamentary question raised by Opposition MP Hem Chand.
“A total of 237 primary schools were identified with classrooms that have more than 30 students. Within these schools, there are 2,143 classes where the student roll exceeds 30,” said Mr Radrodro.
The Ministry acknowledged that these numbers reflect the need for continued investment in classroom infrastructure and targeted teacher recruitment to reduce class sizes and improve the quality of education.
“The Ministry remains committed to ensuring a conducive learning environment for all students across Fiji.
