Over 1,300 Fijians departed for work in October

1,345 Fijian residents left the country for work-related reasons, states the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.

515 residents departed for medium-term contracts lasting between 3 and 12 months.

497 residents left for even longer engagements, with absences expected to last between 1 and 5 years.

A total of 15,954 Fijian residents traveled abroad during the month. The vast majority of these trips, nearly 90%, were for short-term absences of under three months.

Leisure travel was the undisputed leader, accounting for 47.3% of all departures.

A total of 7,546 residents went abroad for a holiday, with all of these trips falling into the “under 3 months” category.

Visiting friends and relatives was the second most common reason for travel, making up 28.0% of departures (4,470 people), also predominantly for short stays.
