Over $10.5M spent on GCC since 2023, Parliament told

More than $10.5 million has been spent on the administration and operations of the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) from 2023 to July 30, 2025.

Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifireimi Vasu presented this information to Parliament this week.

According to the information, capital costs dominate spending with $9.45 million used on capital projects.

This included rebuilding of Vale ni Bose for $7.5 million, refurbishment of the GCC Talanoa Lounge at a cost of $1.7 million and the purchase of an official vehicle for the GCC Chairman valued at $130,000.

The operating expenses included holding meetings and funding the secretariat at a cost of $1.11 million.

The meeting expenses revealed $134,736 used in 2023, in 2024 $340,158 was utilised and $144,997 in 2025.

$492, 120 was used by the GCC Secretariat.
