For the July to September period, there is a 75 per cent chance that Nadarivatu will receive 140 millimetres of rainfall, says the Fiji Meteorological Service in its Climate Outlook for Hydro-electricity Generation.
Climate Outlook for Hydro-electricity Generation is produced to provide advisories to Energy Fiji Ltd (EFL).
It aims to provide advanced warning on climate abnormalities for planning on economic generation mix and hydro-storage optimisation.
“At Monasavu, when comparing the total monthly rainfall against the 30-year average, close to average rainfall was received at Monasavu during June 2023,” stated the Fiji Met.
“There is 75 per cent chance of receiving at least 16mm of rainfall at Nadarivatu station and 75 per cent chance of at least 40 mm of rainfall at Nadarivatu Dam, Monasavu and Wailoa.
“For the July to September 2023 period, there is 75 per cent chance of receiving at least 140mm of rainfall at Nadarivatu station and 75 per cent chance of at least 217mm of rainfall at Nadarivatu Dam, Monasavu and Wailoa.
“Overall, dry conditions are likely to be experienced across Viti Levu during July. However, for July to September period, there is no strong biasness for drier or wetter than usual condition.”
