Opposition agree to acting post

OPPOSITION nominees on the Constitutional Offices Commission agreed with Government members to allow the commission chairman to make acting appointments for up to three months.

This was revealed by SODELPA principal administrative officer Mick Beddoes yesterday.

His comments come after the sudden resignation of RFMF commander Mosese Tikoitoga and the recent appointment of Viliame Naupoto to act in the position.

Despite the agreement, Mr Beddoes said the reasons behind Commander Tikoitoga’s decision to resign and take up a diplomatic posting would be best explained by Mr Tikoitoga himself.

“In so far as the acting appointment of Viliame Naupoto is concerned, the Opposition nominees on the Constitutional Offices Commission agreed with Government members at their previous meeting to allow the commission chairman to make acting appointments for up to three months and therefore Mr Naupoto’s acting appointment is in order,” he said.

Mr Beddoes said Opposition leader Ro Teimumu Kepa would make a substantive statement once she had been fully briefed on the details surrounding the sudden changes in the military leadership.
