Police are intensifying their crackdown on drug farmers with Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu saying the entire marijuana supply chain begins at the plantations.

Mr Tudravu said the core of their Operation Sasamaki was to collapse the supply chain by stopping the farmers.

“The operation intends to tackle the root problem — the farmers. If we disrupt and remove those plants, then there will be no supply.” However, he said Operation Sasamaki does not end at the farms.

“We won’t forget the market chain, those buying and the consumers. All of these are part of our efforts, but the aim is to disrupt it at the farms.”

He is calling on members of the public to report anyone believed to be cultivating illicit drugs in their communities.
