A JOINT operation between officers of the Police Dog Unit and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit resulted in the arrest of a woman and four men in Nakasi on Thursday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu said several zip lock bags containing white crystals suspected to be methamphetamine were found at the Nakasi residence.

The suspects were taken into custody at the Nakasi Police Station and the seized sub-stances were dispatched for analysis.

Mr Driu said over the past week, many individuals were brought before the courts for unlawful possession of illicit drugs across Fiji’s five policing divisions.

He said efforts to crack down on drug distributors were being stepped up ahead of the approaching school holidays.

“Those involved don’t care what happens to others, they only care about filling their pockets,” Mr Driu said.

“The school holidays are coming up and we cannot rule out children being targeted and enticed to get involved in pushing drugs as a means of earning a quick dollar.”

Mr Driu urged parents and guardians to maintain vigilance and communication with their children.
