A Fijian news editor has described the Online Safety Act as ‘slack’.

Communications Fiji Ltd’s news director Vijay Narayan made this comment during a panel discussion at the Women in Media Inaugural Conference 2025.

In sharing his views about the crucial role women have played in the media industry, Mr Narayan said social media attacks on women who are journalists have become frequent but the response from authorities to address such matters have been slow.

“We have a very slack Online Safety Act. All our complaints lodged with the Online Commission, we haven’t heard anything back for three months now.

“We need to know what action to be taken because we know we had to counsel many women at our organisation.”

Comments are being sought from the Online Safety Commission.
