The Lautoka City Council has completed a $2.8million upgrade of the city’s bus terminal entirely funded from its own coffers, marking the first major rehabilitation of the site in 42 years.

While officiating at the opening on Monday, Board of Special Administrators chairperson Taitusi Rasoki confirmed the total cost of the project stood at $2,774,664, delivered on time and without financial overrun.

“This upgrade was completed within the agreed time-line and within the agreed estimated cost with no additional cost to the council,” he said.

“That is why I would like to thank the consultant and the contractor for working within those time-lines.”

The project included concrete surfacing, painting, and the installation of CCTV cameras to improve safety and functionality.

“After more than four decades, the current special administrators and management decided that enough is enough,” Mr Rasoki said.

“The upgrade of the deteriorating Lautoka bus station is a priority and a necessity.”

The work was carried out with West End Consulting PTE Ltd as consultants and Hot Spring High Services PTE Ltd as the lead contractor.
