After spending the past four years pursing his education in China, Eseroma Lagoni returned home to a celebratory welcome by his family and members of the Fiji Navy.

He undertook the professional officer training with the People’s Liberation Army in China in 2019 and recently graduated, completing a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering at the Naval University of Engineering in Wuhan, China.

Yesterday marked a memorable day for the former Ratu Kadavulevu School student as he was commissioned from the rank of midshipman to long service regular commission, and into the officers corp as an Ensign.

Before leaving for China, he was enlisted at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) in 2019 as an ordinary seaman.

“I arrived in Fiji last Sunday and seeing my family after four years and also to receive a big welcome from the Fiji Navy has been really overwhelming,” he said.

Proud father and former RFMF officer Solomone Vuceledua said his family, especially his wife, was happy to see their son achieve his dreams.

“There are three officers in our family, and we never reached the rank he is at and we are so happy with his achievements today,” Mr Vuceledua said.

Fiji Navy commander Capt Humphrey Tawake applauded the work done by Mr Lagoni.

“So they will complement the work that we do in trying to keep our vessels up and running on the technical aspects of our ships,” Capt Tawake said.

“We are pleased that they achieved their professional development targets of graduating and to add to the institution not only to the RFMF but to the navy as a whole.”
