Renowned adventurer and television personality Bear Grylls has shared a personal productivity mantra inspired by Fiji, encouraging people to confront their toughest tasks head-on.
Posting on LinkedIn, Grylls said he uses the phrase “I’m off to Fiji” as a code for locking in and completing difficult work without distraction.
“We have a code phrase for getting the hardest things done,” he wrote.
“It started years ago when a buddy of mine was offered a last-minute trip to Fiji… The problem? He had two weeks of work piled up on his desk.”
Grylls said his friend tackled the most challenging tasks first, stayed focused, and completed everything in time to make the flight.
“He got up early, tackled the biggest, ugliest tasks first, ignored all distractions, and finished everything with time to spare,” he said.
The phrase has since become a personal trigger for action.
“It means: I am locking in. I am tackling the hardest thing first. I am not stopping until it’s done.”
Grylls also warned against overplanning, saying it can delay progress.
“Planning is crucial. But planning can also become a form of putting things off. At some point, you have to just begin,” he said.
He ended by challenging others to identify their own priorities.
“What’s your ‘Fiji’ task for today?”
