CONFUSION yesterday surrounded investigations into the case of Nadi man Richard Mock, who is alleged to have died a year ago in police custody.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has held the file on the case since May last year and is expected to hand it back to police today.
Acting DPP Nancy Tikoisuva told this newspaper there would be a formal handover to the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today, after earlier telling the media that the file had already been handed to the police – a claim police denied.
“There is a meeting tomorrow (today) with CID to hand over the case file,” Ms Tikoisuva said.
“We have completed our analysis and our recommendations are included also.”
Mock is alleged to have died while in police custody at Namaka Police Station in Nadi in February last year.
It is further alleged that after realising he had died, a group of police officers transported and dumped his body in Nasau instead of reporting the death.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said in May last year that investigators had been compiling evidence, including video recorded interviews from 13 officers alleged to be involved.
More than a year after the incident, no charges have been laid.
