Former National Fire Authority (NFA) CEO John O’Connor and Carpenters Fiji managing director Daniel Kingston Whippy appeared at the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday for allegedly amending the findings of investigations into a MH warehouse fire that occurred in April, 2018.
Mr O’Connor is accused of directing officers of NFA to amend the findings of the NFA’s investigation report for the fire at Walu Bay “for purposes of gain”.
Mr Whippy, who was represented by Suruj Sharma from Patel Sharma Lawyers, faces one count of counseling the commission of an offence.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption charged him with one count of abuse of office for gain.
He was represented by Roylesh Nand from Lajendra Lawyers while Suruj Sharma from Patel Sharma Lawyers represented Mr Whippy, who faces one count of counseling the commission of an offence.
He is alleged to have counseled Mr O’Connor to commit the offence.
The prosecutions said the first phase of disclosures had been served and requested the court for more time to serve the second phase.
Magistrate Krishan Prasad granted the two men a non cash bail of $10,000 each and ordered to surrender their travel documents.
The case has been adjourned to March 27.
