EXCITEMENT builds as Basketball Fiji gears up for the highly anticipated FIBA under-17 Oceania Cup, which is set to take place in Samoa from December 8-13.

William Peter, the interim chief operating officer of Basketball Fiji, has expressed confidence in the team’s preparations, stating that the boys’ team has already been named.

”Teams’ preparations have been going well. We have named the boys’ team. Girls Team will be announced this week following their final trials,” said Peter.

A total of six countries, including Fiji, will be participating in the competition.

With this being Fiji’s first time entering the U17 competition, the aim for the team is to compete in all games and showcase their talent on the international stage.

While acknowledging that the competition will be tough, Peter believes that it will provide valuable experience and exposure for the young athletes representing Fiji.

“This is the first time we are entering the U17 competition so we’re aiming to compete at all games. We know the competition will be tough and we will be ready to compete.”

In light of the upcoming competition, Peter is calling on the public to show their support for the team and rally behind them as they prepare to compete in Samoa.

“We appeal to the public to support and get behind our young athletes as we prepare to represent the nation in Samoa.”
