FIJIAN Drua player Caleb Muntz hopes to become a Flying Fijian in the next Rugby World Cup.

Muntz, 19, who has his origin in Rava, Savusavu, Vanua Levu, was born and bred in New Zealand.

He said going through the ranks and playing in the national under-20 side and now making it to the Fijian Drua selection has laid a platform for him to achieve his dream.

“First of all, it’s a big honour and a huge opportunity for me to come and not just play in a high level of rugby, but also play in an environment that develops my cultural side,” Muntz said.

“Living in New Zealand and being born and bred there, I don’t have very much opportunity to get to know my side. It’s also an awesome time to improve on my rugby dream.

“In terms of training, it has been tough as I try to adapt to the weather. It has been good and for us as a team coming against these top sides in Australia will test our ability to maintain our number one spot.”

He said the intense atmosphere was tough.

“As we prepare for Saturday’s game, the team bond has been good and I learn a lot of experience from the boys as they bring a lot of knowledge to us U20 players who are part of the team.

“Its all about learning from the senior players, respecting them as they are the ones who have walked the footsteps and we are following them.”

Muntz, whose mother is a Maori, hopes to fulfil his father’s dream that Fiji will defeat the All Blacks before he passes away.

“For that, my aim is to wear the white jersey,” he said.
