Nurses celebrated International Nurses Day as they marked Florence Nightingale’s birthday yesterday.
At the Labasa Hospital, nurses were reminded about the importance of their calling as carers of patients.
They were also reminded to stay true to their duties at all times.
Fiji Nursing Association northern rep Joeli Karavaki described the celebration as a special moment to thank everyone for their contribution towards the fraternity.
“As a nurse, we all know the challenges we face and during this time of COVID-19, nurses around the world, including us, sacrificed their time to be with patients,” he said.
“And that’s our duty, a calling to fulfil and the importance of taking care of the sick and people who need our help.
“We remember our founder, Florence Nightingale, whose birthday is today (yesterday) and we recite our pledge to stay true to our duties.”
Mr Karavaki said the event was an international event in which nurses celebrated the memory of Ms Nightingale.
The theme for this year’s celebration was Compassion, Expertise and Trust.
