Rising numbers continue to be the case for the Fiji Football Association’s (FFA) School Holiday Football Development Programme.

This, according to the FFA’s head of football development Sushil Singh who was present a recent session held at the association’s headquarters in Vatuwaqa, Suva.

“We have seen the numbers are increasing as some of the kids were out on holiday with their parents and now they are coming back,” Singh highlighted.

“This is a good number of turnout that we have on a daily basis, and we want to encourage more if we can reach out to more children out there.”

With the program continuing to gain traction, Singh has encouraged young girls to come in and join the initiative.

“We need more girls to come in because now we have (an) equal opportunity for both boys and girls,” he said.

“Age grade competition is not only for boys but also for girls and so far we have seen only a handful of girls show up.”

While their participation is a much needed one, Singh added their inclusion in the programme with the backing of their parents, would help open up for them to explore other opportunities within the sport of football.

“We encourage parents that this is a good opportunity for the girls, because a lot more opportunity is there for girls to make it to the national team and represent the country.”

Meanwhile, there are other school holiday programs set up by the FFA around the country which are in full swing as well.
