Nuku leads Unix to victory

UNIX won the Digicel Suva Volleyball Association women’s knockout title yesterday.

Led by national rep Torika Nuku, Unix defeated Marist Saints in the final 2-0 at LICI Courts in Laucala Bay.

The side from Cakau Housing in Kinoya collected $100 as the top prizemoney while Marist Saints received $75.

Tima Lomani and captain Sainimere Sema were impressive in the final.

“We’ve won after hard work on the court,” the 23-year-old Sema said.

“The hard work has paid off now.”

Sema said Unix did not have the best of preparation for the year-ending annual knockout tournament.

“We did not train because it’s the festive season and everyone was busy,” she said.

SVA president Sakiusa Taubale said three clubs turned up late for the tournament.

Taubale said the women’s knockout tournament was contested by only four clubs.

He was not impressed with the level of competition during the knockout tournament.

“Most of the players lacked fitness. They need to improve,” Taubale said.
