Residents of Ram Sami Reddy Rd in Kashmir, Lautoka are up in arms over the nuisance caused by a spate of unlawful activities in the area.
A resident reported to police that an empty corrugated iron four-bedroom house on the street was being used as a drinking spot frequented by young men and women.
He told this newspaper yesterday under condition of anonymity the house has been uninhabited and unkempt for more than three years since the previous owners left for Australia “The house has no doors and windows and is a risk to the neighbourhood,” he said.
“We have reported the matter to the police and requested that they provide 24-hour patrols.
“There have been people coming and going into that house to do drugs and drink alcohol.
“Our neighbourhood has been exposed to illegal activities because of this empty house.”
The resident said the owner of the house has been informed of the activities taking place on their property.
“He told us they were not concerned about our safety and security and that the house had been sold.
“If it has been sold, then they should tell us who the new owner is because these drinking parties have become a nuisance.”
Residents are pleading with police to conduct regular patrols in the area to discourage others from continuing this nuisance.
Questions sent to police have remained unanswered.
