A shortage of staff and essential resources is affecting health services in the North.

The Assistant Health Minister, Penioni Ravunawa, confirmed this after visiting Dreketi and Lekutu health centres and Nabouwalu Hospital to hear firsthand about the challenges facing frontline health workers.

During his visit, Mr Ravunawa said staff raised concerns about human resource shortages, lack of medicine and essential supplies, limited fleet, staff accommodation, and overall service delivery.

“Planning for the centres was also highlighted as an urgent need,” he said.

He assured staff that the Government is committed to strengthening primary healthcare to ensure accessible, quality services for all Fijians.

“I sincerely thank the team for your tireless service in 2025. Your dedication continues to save lives and strengthen our health system.”

The visits mark part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to address gaps in the health system, particularly in remote areas.
