Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has dismissed claims of a rift between the Fiji Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, describing allegations circulating on social media as false.
Speaking during a press conference today, Mr Tudravu said he had just returned from a joint briefing with RFMF Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai.
“The claims are false,” Mr Tudravu said.
“The commander has yet again reaffirmed support for the Joint Task Force operations, as well as the conduct of investigations.”
He said the Joint Task Force continued to operate across all five policing divisions, focusing on intelligence sharing, operational planning and support for police operations aimed at disrupting criminal networks.
“The Joint Task Force works in support of national operations in disrupting, destroying and destabilising criminal networks,” he said.
Mr Tudravu also reassured the public there was no conflict between the two security forces despite speculation online.
Addressing investigations into the death of the late Jone Vakarisi, Mr Tudravu said inquiries remained active, including house-to-house investigations, witness interviews, forensic examinations and digital forensic analysis.
“To date, house-to-house inquiries, gathering of witness statements, uplift of forensic samples and digital forensic analysis are being carried out by the investigation team,” he said.
He confirmed that no arrests had been made so far as investigations continued.
Mr Tudravu also acknowledged concerns that some communities were hesitant to report alleged drug-related activity, but encouraged members of the public to continue working with authorities and provide information through the appropriate channels.
