THERE will be no quarter-finals at the Hamilton 7s in New Zealand next month.

This has been confirmed to The Fiji Times Online by Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O’Connor.

O’Connor said this has been sanctioned by World Rugby and will be tested in three tournaments this season.

“Hamilton, Sydney and Paris are all two day tournaments. There will be no quarter-finals in these tournaments,” he said.

O’Connor added that the message has been passed accrossed to Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber.

“We have met with the coach and told him about the change. We have also written to World Rugby raising our concerns about it,” he added.

Fiji is pooled with Australia, Samoa and Argentina in Hamilton.

The side will need to top its pool to qualify for the semi-finals.
