The Fiji Secondary Schools Football Association (FSSFA) is moving to stamp out drugs from the Extra Fiji Secondary Schools Football Championship 2025, with plans to introduce drug testing for players.

FSSFA president Aminesh Ram said the use of drugs had no place in secondary schools football.

“We strongly believe drugs and football do not go together,” Ram said.

“This tournament is for students, and we want to ensure the game is played in the right spirit.”

The championship, which features under-15, U17, U19, and girls’ divisions, is set to take place in Ba from August 20-23, with 104 matches scheduled across six grounds.

Ram confirmed ongoing talks with the Fiji Football Association about the possible introduction of drug testing during the tournament.

“We may have drug testing in our tournament. We’re still working on the finer details, but to all players, if you are taking drugs, put a stop to it right now. Drugs and sport do not go together,” he said firmly.

He emphasised that drugs brought about negativity and called on everyone involved – players, coaches, and managers – to promote clean sport.

“Let us enjoy the talent God has given us without any drugs. I’m sure we will work with the Fiji Football Association to ensure drug testing becomes a reality in our tournament,” Ram added.

He also thanked the sponsors who have made this large-scale event possible.

“This year’s event will officially be known as the Extra Fiji Secondary Schools Football Championship 2025. I sincerely thank Fiji Football for facilitating this sponsorship,” he said.

He further acknowledged the timely support of Jack’s of Fiji and SNR Joinery, both of whom have contributed in cash and kind to secondary schools football.
