FORMER Women’s Minister Lynda Tabuya will not be returning to the Cabinet as a full minister, says Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
Mr Rabuka said it would not be appropriate for Ms Tabuya to return to the front bench immediately, “given the circumstances”.
“Why should she come back and go straight to the front bench,” he said when asked whether Ms Tabuya would be appointed to a ministerial position.
He said there were other MPs who had behaved and acted in accordance with Cabinet rules.
“They have followed the law and have not breached any of our conditions.”
He said he would not remove any sitting Cabinet minister to accommodate her.
When asked what would become of former Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, Kalaveti Ravu, he said there were plans to bring him back to “where he can be fitted in”.
“Maybe as Assistant Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, the area that he was involved in.
“He was minister for these two ministries before he was removed.”
Ms Tabuya was dismissed last year following public outcry over a leaked explicit video.
Mr Ravu was removed after he was charged for abuse of office — but he was recently acquitted of any wrongdoing.
