No bail for alleged wife killer

A 30 YEAR old man accused of murdering his pregnant wife has been denied bail.

Apisai Madigibuli had his bail ruling delivered today before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere.

Mr Madigibuli allegedly fatally stabbed Kitiana Baravilala with a knife on April 25.

He had sought bail to financially assist his two children, aged 9 and 12, and to reside in Nadi. His sureties were his older sister and sister-in-law.

However, the Director of Public Prosecution strongly objected to bail because of the likelihood Mr Madigibuli would abscond, threaten the safety of the community and potentially interfere with State witnesses.

In his ruling, Justice Tuiqereqere said he had concerns for the safety of the community and the victim’s family in light of the evidence.

He said due to the seriousness of the charge and strength of the prosecution’s case, it was not in the public interest to release Mr Madigibuli on bail.

Mr Madigibuli will be remanded in custody, while the case has been adjourned to December 3 to set a trial date.
