SAIPAN, 16 JANUARY 2019 (MARIANAS VARIETY) – The golfers’ team that will represent CNMI in the Pacific Games is going an extra mile as the players prepare for the quadrennial sports event that will be held in Apia, Samoa from July 7 to 20.

Joe Kamikaze Camacho, a member of the five-man team told Variety that they started practicing immediately after the qualifying tournament two weeks ago.

Camacho said they set a practice schedule but he noticed members are eager to win that they each of them has been gearing up for the regional event beyond the scheduled practice time.

Those who made it in the team after the three-day qualifying tournament held at LaoLao Bay Golf Resort’s west course were Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho, Ryan Kim, JJ Atalig, Edward Lee and Sebastian “Tiny” Camacho, with Tony Satur as alternate.

Of the NMI’s sports organisations, the CNMI Federation of Golf Associations has come up with a complete team for the Pacific Games.

It is the first time for the CNMI Federation of Golf Associations to handle a golfers’ team for the regional event, since the group was chartered in April last year.

The golf event in the Pacific Games usually allows five golfers each team but only four lowest scores would count.

Formerly called South Pacific Games, the Pacific Games will showcase the participation of more than 3000 athletes from 22 Pacific Nations in 27 other sports and disciplines, aside from golf that will be held at Fagali’i/Faleata Golf Course from July 10 to 13.
