Assistant Justice Minister Ratu Josaia Niudamu has criticised his former parliamentary colleagues in the Opposition, describing them as “confused” and holding on to the legacy of FijiFirst which, he claims, has since distanced itself from the current Opposition.
Speaking during the budget debate in Parliament on Tuesday, Mr Niudamu said what emerged over the budget week was an Opposition bloc struggling with its identity and attempting to claim credit for policies and achievements delivered by the now defunct FijiFirst party.
“What I’ve heard throughout the week is a confused Opposition,” Mr Niudamu said.
“You are relying on a legacy that belongs to FijiFirst. You’re trying to take credit for a legacy which Fijians First is supposed to take credit for, a party that is outside of this Parliament.”
Mr Niudamu said the FijiFirst party, which recently rebranded itself as the Fijians First party, had publicly disassociated itself from current Opposition members.
“Now there’s one group here, one is missing, and you are trying to claim the legacy of FijiFirst party.
“And the FijiFirst party, who are now forming the Fijians First party, have disassociated themselves from this Opposition.
“So, we are just left with a confused Opposition.”
