Nightclub opening hours and permitted hours of liquor sales will be reviewed.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced this following Cabinet’s approval at its meeting yesterday.
At present, nightclub opening hours are authorised from 5pm to 5am for designated zones.
“In recent years, there have been numerous reports of brawls, robberies and attacks in areas around nightclubs in designated zones in the early hours,” Mr Rabuka said.
“This has also resulted in loss of lives.”
Mr Rabuka said the Fiji Police Force had made submissions for a review of the opening hours for nightclubs given ongoing assaults, violence and robberies that were cause for concern and posed a risk to the safety of citizens.
He said the review team would include representatives from the Home Affairs Ministry and the AG’s Office.
