Non-governmental organisations (NGOs), civil society organisations (CSOs), and faith-based organisations have long been at the forefront of humanitarian efforts, providing aid, solace, and support to those in need.

Deputy Secretary for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Mitieli Cama highlighted this in his address while opening a one-day workshop yesterday to raise awareness on Fiji’s National Disaster Risk Reduction Policy (NDRRP).

In acknowledging the work done by CSOs, NGOs and faith-based organisations in the humanitarian space, Mr Cama said: “Your dedication, unwavering commitment, and ability to mobilise resources have made a profound difference in countless lives.”

“Together, we can bridge gaps in preparedness, response, and recovery, ensuring that vulnerable communities have the tools, knowledge, and capacity to withstand and bounce back from disasters.

“We need the expertise, resources, and dedication of NGOs, CSOs, and faith-based organisations to forge partnerships and catalyse change.”

The workshop, which was facilitated by Fiji NDMO in partnership with the Fiji Council of Social Services (FCOSS), aimed to raise awareness to CSOs about the policy and the action points being implemented by Government line ministries so synergies could be created with the work that CSOs presently do at the division and community levels.
