The National Federation Party (NFP) has declared its full and unwavering support for party leader Professor Biman Chand Prasad, following his decision to step aside as Deputy Prime Minister and from all ministerial portfolios.
In a statement today, NFP President Parmod Chand said the party stands firmly behind Professor Prasad, who was charged by FICAC on Monday for allegedly breaching the Political Parties Act in 2015.
“We are deeply appreciative of the outpouring of wholesome support, unity, and solidarity from our branches across the country and from well-wishers both locally and abroad,” Mr Chand said.
“This demonstrates yet again why the NFP is an impregnable principled fortress with an indestructible foundation laid 62 years ago.”
Mr Chand also thanked the Prime Minister for his understanding and public support during this period.
“The NFP reaffirms its commitment to the stability and success of the Coalition Government in conformity with the principles and spirit of the Coalition agreement.”
Calling the situation a “testing time,” Mr Chand expressed confidence that truth, integrity, and justice will prevail, describing Professor Prasad as a leader who has “always conducted himself with honour, humility, and dedication to the people of Fiji.”
“He continues to inspire confidence among our members and supporters. As a party with a proud history of courage and conviction, the NFP stands firm and united. This moment will be no different.”
The NFP President added that the party’s Management Board will meet in mid-November to chart the way forward and reinforce its resolve to serve the people of Fiji.
